Once this was done, use the TNG Admin -> Custom Events area to give readable names to all the custome "events" that TNG had found in my GEDCOM file and set them to Accept. Then I exported the GEDCOM and imported it into TNG. When I first got TNG and realised how it works, I spent some time with my Reunion file making sure that every different field I had setup and used had a unique GEDCOM tag associated with it. My experience is quite different from this. I am a seriously addicted genealogy nut and with iFamily this is how I feel Some of my folk have 20 photos scans etc and I can see them all. Now I can add all my photos, all my certififcates everything I have basically for each person, it handles them all. I downloaded a gedcom from it and have that data now in iFamily with absolute confidence. One week ago I dumped my reunion program. Keith kindly allowed me to trial his program and to make requests of him, to look at it critically and he has taken every comment and request that I have made seriously and created a program (which can only get better and better as it progresses) and created a genealogy program that seriously makes me smile. I cannot knock Reunion as a standalone program for keeping family data, I was reluctant to look at something else purely because of the amount of effort and energy and time I had put into creating my reunion database. I then set about testing this program, adding people to iFamily, creating a new gedcom, uploaded it to TNG, and guess what, didn't have to touch a thing. When I exported the family tree from TNG I also chose to download the pictures, photos, histories, headstones, dragged those downloaded folders onto the iFamily page and it loaded the whole lot of them for me. I downloaded my entire tree from TNG imported it into an iFamily file. Keith has created now with his later versions an unreal easy to use, accurate tagging, program, with heaps of functions. Now there is a very very good mac genealogy program called iFamily. To double check I then downloaded a gedcom from TNG and imported it into Reunion to find it could not handle TNG's correct tagging system. What a surprise I got to find that the tagging system in Reunion is not OK and I ended up doing thousands of adjustments in TNG to get the data into the correct places. I discovered the incredible ease of using TNG and created a gedcom file from my reunion database and uploaded it to TNG. Having been a Reunion user since commencing genealogy a couple of years ago I was a little ignorant as to the purpose of event tags etc used in the production of gedcoms. But most of those activities just use basic Gedcom name-date-place info, so I suspect that any of them will be able to create "pretty" stuff from TNG's basics. Several software packages will create lovely, customizable trees, nice family "books," etc. (Or maybe I need to set up TNG to run on my laptop, but that's something that'll have to wait until I know what I'm doing.) Once I get that done, I'll make a Gedcom from that database and see which software package handles it the best, so that I can maintain the files when I'm offline. So, for now, I've taken my RM Gedcom and uploaded it to my host server, and I'm making changes and cleaning up the file online in TNG. And the RM exports to TMG and FTM all had some bugs that needed to be cleaned up. I have exports from that in The Master Genealogist and in Family Tree Maker. The most up-to-date version of my database is in RootsMagic. ![]() I won't vote because I'd need to vote more than once.
